G.J. van Geffen

I have led efforts to evaluate the efficacy of ultrasound for regional anesthesia and evaluated this technology in clinical practice in adults and children. I have contributed to the understanding the specifics of anatomy involved in the performance of brachial plexus and sciatic nerve blocks. We evaluated new devices which improve needle visualization during the performance of interventional tasks and reduce unintentional probe and needle movements. Continuing research focuses on improvement of techniques and applications and a reduction of complications in regional anesthesia. Our research will continue to focus on acute pain management and improving pain relieving techniques, in-hospital and out of hospital and performed by non-anesthesiologists such as emergency physicians and nurses
