Dr. Peter Van de Putte obtained his medical degree at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium in 1991. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology in 1996.
He is a staff member of the department of Anesthesiology of the hospital AZ Monica, campus Deurne, Antwerp. He has been clinical director of the operating theatre and the one day clinic and is responsible for the resident’s training program.
His primary interest has always been with loco-regional anesthesia and especially continuous peripheral nerve blocks. Most of his current research involves point-of-care gastric ultrasound ( GUS ) and its development as an application for assessment of aspiration risk in perioperative patients. He has given many lectures and workshops on the topic and has published on GUS together with Prof A. Perlas ( Toronto, Canada ) in Anesthesia and Analgesia, the British Journal of Anaesthesia and the Journal of Clinical Anesthesiology.
He is working on and participating in more GUS related studies with Prof A. Perlas and with Dr. G J Van Geffen at the Radboud University Hospital Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He is a member of BARA, ESRA and ASRA.
